Ezekiel Elliott stated that he wants to play his entire career as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, and even though the team would love to have him in the backfield, it’s starting to look more and more likely that he is going to miss a game or two in the regular season amid his contract holdout.
On Wednesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told 1053 The Fan that there was nothing new in regards of the contract negotiations regarding Zeke, but also stated that the team is preparing to take the field and play without him if it comes to that.
“We have to be prepared to play without any given player. …We may very well play without a player that’s not coming in on his contract. We’ll play and we’ll play well,” Jones said (H/T Jon Machota).
The Cowboys have reportedly offered to make Zeke the second-highest paid running back in the NFL, but a new report states that he and his agent won’t accept anything less than being the top earner at his position, which means more money that what Todd Gurley got from the Rams.
Dallas will host the division rival Giants to kickoff the season on September 8th, and then will be on a road game against the Washington Redskins in Week 2. Looking at the rosters, you would think that would be two win-able games, but you can never predict NFC East matchups as history has told us many times in the past.
