Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was arrested by police over the weekend on charges of possession of a controlled substance and illegal carrying of a weapon, according to a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The 2022 second-round pick allegedly had marijuana, warranting the controlled substance charge. The weapons charge is a misdemeanor.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made a joke that Williams was showing maturity because he wasn’t driving as fast as he was in January when he was cited for misdemeanor reckless driving.
Joking about reckless driving is not something anyone should be doing as people have lost their lives to it every single day.
“Jerry Jones joked that Cowboys DE Sam Williams has shown maturity considering he was ticketed for going 98 miles an hour last and was going around 60 when he was arrested on Sunday,” Clarence Hill Jr. wrote on social media. “He said the improvement of 30 miles less is a sign of progress. Imagine that.”
