Two games into the 2022 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the four NFL teams with only one touchdown pass, and they rank 23rd in passing yards.
If only they still had a dynamic WR like…..Amari Cooper.
The Cowboys’ 2021 Pro Bowl receiver, CeeDee Lamb, has caught nine passes for 104 yards and no touchdowns in 2022. That is not going to cut it as the No. 1 option on the team.
Meanwhile, Amari Cooper, traded by the Cowboys to the Cleveland Browns in March had nine receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown on Sunday and then proceeded to have seven receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown on Thursday night.
During an appearance on KRLD-FM in Dallas, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed the team’s decision to trade Cooper. He said that move was made strictly because Cooper’s salary was too high.
“The issue with Amari Cooper was how much we were paying him and what we could do with that money completely,” Jones said. “Amari Cooper is a real good player, top player and should be able to be on any team there is in the NFL. But do you want to allocate that much money to it or do you have that much allocation or would you rather have a better offensive line, would you rather have a better pass rush?
“You can’t have it all.”

The Cowboys currently have over $12 million in cap space. Cooper would have counted $22 million against the Cowboys’ cap. By trading him, Dallas cleared about $16 million in cap room.
With a 1-1 record, Dallas will open its NFC East schedule on the road against the New York Giants Monday in the final game of Week 3.
