It appears that the Odell Beckham Jr. rumors of him heading to Dallas have completely died down after Jerry Jones’ latest comments.
During Jerry Jones’ Friday radio show, the Cowboys owner made it clear that Odell joining his franchise likely wouldn’t really help his team. There was a time when it felt like the signing was basically a done deal. That is all but over now.
“Well, I think the big thing is me or whoever has let enough time go as we get toward the end of the season that it’s not realistic to think about having him in any meaningful way for the playoffs,” Jones said. “That’s not dismissing [signing Beckham in] the future, but it is dismissing, for the most part, the reality of him getting in here and helping us in the playoffs. That was a big part of the equation.”
Before the season, the Cowboys looked to be in bad shape as they lost Cedrick Wilson to free agency and traded Amari Cooper out of town. In the meantime, the team has since signed former Indianapolis Colt T.Y. Hilton. T.Y Hilton’s first catch as a member of the Dallas Cowboys was a 52-yard reception as the team faced a third-and-30 after Dak Prescott was sacked on consecutive plays and trailing the Eagles 34-27 with 8:02 to play.
The Cowboys are already through to the playoffs, but the team has been playing quite shaky lately as they struggled to defeat the worst team in the league in the Houston Texans, and then struggled to defeat the best team in the league in the Philadelphia Eagles as they were missing Jalen Hurts at QB. Not to mention, the team squandered away a lead to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
