When Dak Prescott got hurt on the first week of the season, it appeared America’s 2022 season was going downhill very quickly.
Fast forward a few weeks and now there are whispers of a quarterback competition in Dallas following the steady play of Cowboys backup Cooper Rush with starter Dak Prescott still out with a thumb injury. Owner Jerry Jones fanned the flames of a possible controversy last week when he said he’d welcome a competition as it would mean the team was playing well under Rush’s leadership.
“Of course I would,” Jones said when asked about his desire for a quarterback controversy, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Of course, that means we’ve won. If he comes in and plays as well as Prescott plays—if Rush played that well over these next games ahead, I’d walk to New York to get that.”
Well, the Cowboys are now 3-1 after wins over the Bengals, Giants, and Commanders. Rush became the first quarterback in Cowboys history to win the first four starts of his career.
Owner Jerry Jones was asked this week if Rush would continue to play even when Prescott gets healthy.
“No. No. As I see it right today,” Jones said.

Rush completed 15 of 27 passes for 223 yards with two touchdown passes on Sunday. He has been sacked just twice in his three starts and he has not had a pass intercepted. Playing well and not turning the ball over.
So far this season, Rush has completed 62 of 102 passes (60.8%) for 737 yards and four touchdowns.
Prescott is eyeing a return next week against the Los Angeles Rams, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
