Jerry Jones took an optimistic tone about his team’s 23-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. During his weekly interview on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan, he said he thought the team played better, despite the final result of the game.
As always, Jerry Jones can’t help but to be brutally honest while answering some questions, and he saved it all for rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci. The 2020 draft pick, who was pressed into the starting QB role after injuries to Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton, made his NFL debut against the Eagles on Sunday.
The Cowboys owner did not mince words when he was asked for his thoughts on DiNucci’s first game.
“Well, I think it was a lot for him,” Jones said. “I think we certainly, as a team, paid the price to have him come in under those circumstances, and that’s almost trite. It was, frankly, more than he could handle. I don’t know what you could have expected for somebody to come in under those circumstances.”
DiNucci completed 21-of-40 passes for just 180 yards in the loss to the Eagles.
He also took four sacks and lost two fumbles. The offense could do nothing all game long.
