Being a head coach in the National Football League is probably one of the most challenging jobs. After all, there are only 32 spots open for business at any given moment, and as of now, Jerod Mayo has found that out the hard way.
New England was a franchise that had years and years of success during the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era; however, after Brady transitioned to Florida, the Patriots fell off a little, leading to Belichick leaving the team in the hands of former player Jerod Mayo.
Mayo was deemed the future of the Patriots along with Drake Maye after he was hired ahead of the team’s decision to draft Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and now only one of those guys is still with the Patriots.
Yesterday, the Patriots canned Mayo after a horrid start to his NFL head coaching career, and most thought it was due to his defensive-minded head coaching; however, one insider has revealed that there could have been a very different cause at hand.
Jerod Mayo Pulls Interesting Move On Team Plane
According to The Athletic’s Chad Graff, Mayo joined the team at the back of the plane to play cards following the team’s 30-17 week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was a surprising move, to say the least.
Graff continued by mentioning that he had talked to someone on the flight who had an interesting observation: “Look, there are a lot of ways to do the job. It’s not that Jerod’s was definitely wrong. But I can’t say I’ve seen that before.”

Usually, after a loss like that, the coaches review game footage at the front of the plane, and it seems that Mayo going and playing cards didn’t sit well with the ownership.
The question remains: where will Mayo land next?
