A former NFL running back who was drafted out of the second round has announced his retirement from NFL football on the back of an injury-plagued career.
Jeremy Hill, who went pro via way of Cincinnati in 2014 and had an impressive rookie season, has taken to Instagram to let fans know he’s closed the curtains on his metier. The 30-year-old has revealed that, due to injuries suffered in 2018, he has stopped pursuing a return to the game and is now looking forward to the next chapter of his life.
“Unfortunately due to the injuries I sustained September 9, 2018, I will no longer be pursuing my career in professional football,” he wrote as part of an IG post on Tuesday night,” that’s right I’m retiring from the game that we all love so dearly, it’s been one hell of a journey and I wouldn’t have been close to enjoying it without my family specifically my Mother, my coaches and all the great teammates I was blessed to play with.
“Now the fun part of life starts for me but in the mean time I will be doing everything in my power to help the next generation in our game so we all can continue to enjoy our great sport for decades to come.”
Hill’s rookie NFL season saw him rush for 1,124 yards and nine touchdowns on 22 carries. He joined the New England Patriots after a four-year stint in Cincy but tore his ACL in Week 1 of the 2018 campaign.
He would later join the Las Vegas Raiders, signing with the team in 2020, and was released after two days.
The former LSU star won a Super Bowl with the Pats while on the injured reserve and ends his career with 2,898 rushing yards, 490 receiving yards, and 30 touchdowns.
