The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to make moves that would strengthen their secondary ahead of this year’s trade deadline, and it’s being reported that they could look to a Carolina Panthers safety.
The reigning NFC champions are thought to have been interested in Jeremy Chinn even before he joined the Panthers and, according to NFL analyst Cam Marino, that hasn’t changed as they are now expected to make inquiries into his availability and the possibility of a trade.
The Panthers drafted Bryce Young as the first overall pick this year but are the only winless team in the NFL at the moment. They’re likely to be 0-6 after their matchup vs. the Miami Dolphins this weekend and, with a bye week coming up and the trade deadline set for the end of October, they could be interested in making moves that would get them some more draft capital.
Chinn, now in his fourth season in the league, has found it difficult to fit into defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero’s defensive scheme and is thought to be a trade candidate. He has played in just 56 percent of the Panthers’ defensive snaps this season, a career-low which marks a steep decline from his previous three seasons.
The Eagles could be a good fit for him, having considered drafting the player in 2020. They ended up taking Jalen Hurts instead, a move that paid significant dividends last season. But Chinn just might end up in Philly.
