Back in 2017, Jerry Jones made it clear that he would not tolerate any players kneeling during the national anthem. The Dallas Cowboys owner said that anyone who “disrespects the flag” won’t be allowed to play.
“We cannot in any way give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag,” Jones added. “We know that there is a serious debate in this country about those issues, but there is no question in my mind, that the [NFL] and the Dallas Cowboys are going to stand up for the flag.”
As you know, the kneeling was to protest against police brutality among other things.
Fast forward to 2020 and the world got to see it first hand with the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis cops. The Cowboys released a video statement promoting equality in the wake of the George Floyd killing.
Former ESPN analyst Jemele Hill saw that video and promptly called out Jerry Jones for his hypocrisy.
