Sage Steele has been trending in the wrong direction for days after she appeared on Jay Cutler’s podcast to talk about a number of topics. One of her most controversial ones is the fact that she essentially blamed up-and-coming female journalists dealing with harassment because of the way they dress.
Steele said, “when you dress like that, I’m not saying you deserve the gross comments, but you know what you’re doing when you’re putting that outfit on.”
Her former co-worker, Jemele Hill, saw those comments and fired right back at her on Twitter.
“So on top of thinking former President Obama shouldn’t identify as black because he didn’t have a relationship with his black father, Sage Steele also thinks female journalists who dress a certain way “know what you’re doing when you’re putting that outfit on.”
“Clown behavior.”
One of the biggest topics she talked about is receiving her vaccine ahead of ESPN’s mandated deadline, but only because she wanted to keep her job.

“I got my shot today,” Steele told Cutler. “I didn’t want to do it, but I work for a company that mandates it and I had until September 30th to get it done or I’m out.”
She continued, “I respect everyone’s decision, I really do, but to mandate it is sick and it’s scary to me in many ways. But, I have a job. A job that I love, and frankly, a job that I need, but again I love it. I just — I’m not surprised it got to this point, especially with Disney, I mean a global company like that.”
Steele added that she has no problem with mask mandates, but said “it’s another thing” to force the vaccine on people.
The Worldwide leader in sports has been grappling with measures to keep players and staff safe amid the global pandemic and vaccine conspiracy theories which have questioned the safety of the vaccine.
A small minority of NBA stars have come out publicly about their anti-vaccine stance, including Washington Wizard shooting guard Bradley Beal, and Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving. Golden State Warriors player Andrew Wiggins was initially part of this list, but he has since gotten his vaccine so he won’t miss 41 home games due to cities with local vaccine mandates like New York and San Francisco.
Steele said she felt “defeated,” when the company instated the mandate.
