Jeff Okudah got a needed change of scenery with the Falcons, but the former Lions cornerback may have suffered a significant injury during training camp this week that saw him being carted off.
As bad as it looked when it happened, it seems things are not as bad after an injury update. Head coach Arthur Smith provided a promising update on Okudah’s injury on Saturday.
Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith said his team received “very positive news” after an MRI of cornerback Jeff Okudah’s right ankle. Smith expects Okudah back at some point early in the regular season.
“Very positive news all things considered,” Smith said. “We expect he’s got a great chance to be back really early part of the season. We feel really good for Jeff all things considered.”
Being carted off always raises concern level, but it’s not always the worst case as you can see here. However, it’s another injury setback in a career marked by injuries during his time with the Lions.
The Lions took Okudah third overall in the 2020 draft. Injuries and playing for Matt Patricia derailed his rookie season. He then suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 of the 2021 season, which of course cost him the rest of that season.
