Back in 2021, the Dallas Cowboys released linebacker Jaylon Smith after he had signed a five-year, $64 million extension in 2019 that included $35.5 million in guaranteed money.
The former Pro Bowl linebacker hasn’t been able to find his new team since his contract with the New York Giants ended after the 2022 season. That all may change fairly soon.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Smith is working out for the Raiders.
While Pro Football Reference says he didn’t miss a single tackle last year, quarterbacks still completed 82.1 percent of their passes when targeting him, and he allowed a 100.0 passer rating.
Smith had 88 tackles, one sack, and three tackles for loss with the New York Giants in 2022. The 28-year-old is aiming to rediscover the form that catapulted him to the Pro Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019.
The Raiders haven’t done much this offseason when it comes to the linebacking corps, so Smith could easily step in and help out in that area.
