One of the Chicago Bears’ top players is looking to be dealt ahead of the 2023 NFL trade deadline.
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, cornerback Jaylon Johnson has asked the Hears for a trade after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on an extension last week. The 24-year-old is in the final year of his rookie deal.
The trade deadline is at 4:00 p.m. EST today.
Johnson has two interceptions, four pass defenses and one forced fumble in six games. He is also one of the top-ranked cornerbacks at Pro Football Focus thus far in 2023 with a superb grade of 84.4.
The Bears’ ugly Sunday night loss to the Chicago Bears dropped them to 2-6 on the year with nine games to go. With the playoffs out of reach, GM Ryan Poles should definitely be open for business between now and 4 p.m.
Like Johnson, former 1,000-yard wideout Darnell Mooney is in the final year of his rookie contract and could be dealt ahead of the deadline. Quarterback Justin Fields has been mentioned frequently in trade rumors as well, though there aren’t any indicators that Chicago will shop him.
