Earlier this week, it was reported that the Indianapolis Colts asked the Miami Dolphins for star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in trade talks for running back Jonathan Taylor.
The Colts ultimately decided to hold onto Taylor to begin the season after failing to find a trade offer for their liking. He was placed on the Physically unable to perform (PUP) list, keeping Taylor out for the first four games of 2023.
Per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Miami general manager Chris Grier laughed when asked about Waddle’s name in trade speculation. Grier also made it clear that the third-year wideout is simply not “available” in trade talks.
“Jaylen Waddle would not be available, no mater who they’re calling to talk about,” Grier said.
With all due respect to Taylor and the Colts, thinking that Miami would trade a 24-year-old wideout for a running back is simply ludicrous. The running back is a devaluing position, and it’s not hard to find quality ones in this day and age (see Tyler Allgeier, Isiah Pacheco, Aaron Jones, Tony Pollard, et al).

Waddle is one of the most explosive wide receivers in the game, helping Miami to a postseason berth last year after racking up 75 receptions for 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns. As a rookie in 2021, Waddle hauled in 104 catches for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns.
Waddle and fellow speedster Tyreek Hill were the league’s best receiving duo last season and led the Dolphins to their first playoff berth in six years. Of course Grier has no reason to trade Waddle, let alone for a running back.
