A top wide receiver prospect is claiming that, following conversations with the Green Bay Packers, he’s certain the team is keen on drafting a wideout.
The Packers have often been linked with offensive skill position players and it’s probably the case every NFL Draft, yet they haven’t actually selected one since they picked WR Javon Walker out of Florida State in 2002.
This is certainly indicative of Green Bay’s faith in Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, whom they believed could make do with lesser talent around them given how good they were. But the Pakcers could have probably found more success over the years if they’d surrounded their quarterbacks with better players.
They could definitely use another offensive weapon heading into 2023, whether or not they opt to keep Rodgers. And, if former Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is to be believed, the Packers will be looking to draft a WR this year.
Smith-Njigba, who’s taking part in the NFL Scouting Combine, was asked what stood out to him during his formal interview with the team and noted that it was their intent on adding playmaking to their passing game.
“They are definitely looking for a receiver,” he said, per Gery Woelfel.

Notable mock drafts have also linked the Packers to a receiver but, given that it’s been over 20 years since they picked one, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Smith-Njigba, meanwhile, is likely to be drafted in the first round in 2023.
