The Minnesota Vikings have been left to rue the loss of a player for the entire 2023 season following an injury sustained in training.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, defensive tackle James Lynch is set for a season-ending knee operation after tearing an ACL.
Lynch, who has recorded 52 tackles and two sacks since joining the Vikings as a fourth-round draft selection out of Baylor in the 2020 NFL Draft, will leave the team somewhat short on the defensive side of things.
The DT was an All-American in college after an impressive career with the Bears and also snagged All-Big 12 honors in his final collegiate year.
The Vikings will be keen on repeating as NFC North Champions after putting a 13-4 season together in 2022, with quarterback Kirk Cousins playing at an extremely high level and wide receiver Justin Jefferson separating himself as arguably the best pass catcher in the game.
They did have one of the worst defenses in the NFL, which is an indication of how potent of an offense they fielded. And Lynch’s injury setback could leave them even worse for wear.

How his absence affects the team remains to be seen, but Minnesota would do well to improve on their defense next season given their Super Bowl ambitions.
