Jameis Winston backed up Andy Dalton for the New Orleans Saints’ Week 8 home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, but the No. 1 selection of the 2015 Draft found another way to get his teammates going.
Before the game, Winston met up with wide receivers Juwan Johnson and Rashid Shaheed. Winston then went to work in getting his teammates fired up by dropping some epic bars about getting a win for New Orleans.
The Saints went on to dominate the Raiders 24-0, ending a mini two-game losing skid. Johnson and Shaheed also came through with some big plays, combining for five receptions (two for Johnson, three for Shaheed) and 52 receiving yards.
Winston missed the previous for Saints’ games recovering from back and foot injuries. Though he was healthy and cleared to play, the Saints decided to give Dalton his fifth consecutive start.
Dalton has struggled with turnovers, highlighted by a three-pick outing (two of them returned for touchdowns) against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. But the Saints have been moving the ball well with Dalton, having posted no fewer than 24 points in each of his five starts this season.
This past offseason, Winston signed a two-year pact with the Saints worth $28 million, and Dalton was signed to a one-year deal worth $3 million.

Winston was New Orleans’ third-stringer in 2020. After Drew Brees retired in 2021, the Saints gave Winston a one-year deal and the opportunity to take over as the starter. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 8 of last year, but the Saints saw enough to give him an extension in the offseason.
Despite a 3-5 record, the Saints are only one game behind the Atlanta Falcons for first in the NFC South. New Orleans will try to pick up win No. 4 on the year when they host the Baltimore Ravens next Monday night.
