Cincinnati Bengals’ star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase admitted to reporters on Friday that he would prefer if star quarterback Joe Burrow played it safe and sat out the team’s Week 3 contest against the Los Angeles Rams.
Burrow suffered a calf injury during training camp and admitted to reporters on Sunday that he aggravated it in the team’s Week 2 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Burrow is questionable for Monday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Rams — a rematch of Super Bowl 56.
Bengals’ reporter Mike Petraglia posted a video of Chase speaking to reporters in his locker room on Friday. Chase admitted that he’d rather Burrow sit out and get healthy, adding his guess that Burrow will be out for Week 3.
“”I told him…don’t play until you’re 100 percent ready to play,” Chase said. “If I had to guess, I would say no (he doesn’t play). I’ve been telling him no.”
It’s definitely a tough spot for Burrow and the Bengals. If he doesn’t play, their chances of avoiding an 0-3 start are that much tougher. And in regards to qualifying for the postseason after such a start, history simply isn’t kind to 0-3 teams.

But the Bengals also won’t want to risk losing Burrow long-term if the injury gets worse. Keep in mind that they started out 0-2 last year but went 12-2 the rest of the way en route to an AFC Championship Game appearance, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Through the club’s first two games, Burrow completed just 56.9 percent of pass attempts for 304 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
