After putting up an insane amount of touchdowns in 2022, Jamaal Williams decided not to come back to the Detroit Lions, but it wasn’t because he did not want to.
Running back Jamaal Williams, coming off a career year with the Detroit Lions, agreed to join the New Orleans Saints on a three-year, $12 million deal. Instead of signing Williams back to the team, the Lions signed David Montgomery to replace him.
On Friday, he told reporters that he felt “disrespected” by the Lions’ offer.
“The offer they gave me, I felt like was disrespectful and showing that they really didn’t want me to be there like that,” Williams said, via MLive.
Williams fit seamlessly into the Lions’ system after joining the team as an unrestricted free agent in 2021.
Williams is coming off an incredible season in Detroit where he had 1,066 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. The 28-year-old became the first Lions player to top 1,000 rushing yards in a season since Reggie Bush did it in 2013.

Now he heads to a team that struggled with consistency on offense in 2022, finishing the season ranked 19th in rushing yards.
Williams will now be in a backfield with Derek Carr, who also signed to the team this offseason,
