The New England Patriots are giving a former highly-touted wide receiver another chance to shed his “bust” label.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Minnesota Viking and Philadelphia Eagle Jalen Reagor was signed to the Patriots’ practice squad after clearing waivers. If Reagor gets promoted, he’ll fittingly make his Pats’ debut against the team that drafted him.
At the 2020 NFL Draft, the Eagles infamously selected Reagor over Justin Jefferson. While the latter is now widely regarded as the best wide receiver in football, Reagor has yet to develop into an impact player.
In two seasons with the Eagles, Reagor compiled just 64 receptions for 695 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles gave Reagor a fresh start and sent him to the Vikings last year, but Reagor tallied only eight catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.
So now Reagor gets the chance to revive his career with the greatest head coach of all-time in Bill Belichick. Though the latter has struggled greatly with drafting and developing his own wideouts, we did see Belichick do wonders with ex-Charger and Dolphin Wes Welker more than a decade ago.
Could Reagor be the next player to suddenly break out and find his game under Belichick? We’ll soon find out.
