Jalen Ramsey seemingly took a shot at a former Miami Dolphins assistant coach following the news that the team was planning to release Pro Bowl corner Xavien Howard.
On Friday, multiple reports stated that the Dolphins will be releasing the veteran cornerback in a post-June 1st move. The release of the 30-year-old Howard will clear $18.5 million in salary cap space for the Dolphins.
On X/Twitter, Ramsey called it “an honor” to play with Howard, whom he called the best cornerback in franchise history. At the end of the tweet, he seemingly ripped former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio by writing, “I won’t ever forgive dude for not utilizing our full skillset!)
The Dolphins parted ways with Fangio, one of the game’s most respected defensive-minded coaches, after just one season. He wound up taking the Philadelphia Eagles’ DC position, while Anthony Weaver was named Fangio’s replacement in Miami.
There was a lot of excitement in Miami about the Ramsey-Howard tandem. Unfortunately, injuries limited Ramsey to 10 games, while Howard missed four of his own. The Dolphins finished 22nd in scoring defense, a colossal disappointment given the amount of talent on that side of the ball.
Howard is one of the best ball-hawking cornerbacks of his era, with 29 interceptions and 95 pass breakups. Without question, he’ll draw plenty of interest on the open market.
