One of the biggest storylines to emerge from week 8 of the NFL season was the unsportsmanlike penalty that Panthers wide receiver D.J. Moore received for taking his helmet off an celebrating a game-tying touchdown with 12 seconds left in their game against the Falcons.
As you all know by now, that penalty would set the Panthers back 15-yards for their extra-point try to win it, and Eddy Pineiro would go on to miss the winning-kick. From there, Carolina would eventually lose in overtime.
One week later, that very same officiating crew was working the Los Angeles Rams-Tampa Bay Buccaneers contest. And it looked like they were going to have to make ANOTHER crucial unsportsmanlike conduct call late in the game, when Rams corner Jalen Ramsey removed his helmet in the field of play following a big stop on fourth down in the red zone…
But this time, they didn’t make the call.
Ramsey clearly looked to still be in the field of play when he ripped his helmet off. But no flag was thrown.

Of course, the Bucs defense would eventually force a turnover, and Tom Brady would put together a miraculous drive to give Tampa the 16-13 victory—making the missed call a moot point.
But that didn’t stop NFL fans from taking to Twitter to blast the officials for throwing the flag in week 8 (when they probably shouldn’t have, according to the Senior VP of Officiating), yet not making the very same call one week later when it definitely should have been called.
