Jalen Ramsey once had a dream of playing for the Dallas Cowboys, until they lied to him and broke his heart.
The Los Angeles Rams cornerback says the Cowboys promised him they were going to draft him in 2016. Having grown up a Cowboy fan, Ramsey was shocked and disappointed when Dallas decided to select running back Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 overall pick.
“I remember when I was on my visit to Dallas, they told me, ‘If you’re there at No. 4, we’re taking you. We don’t think you’re going to be there at No. 4. If you’re on that board though, we’re taking you.’ I thought I was gone then,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey grew up a fan of the Cowboys. He said playing for the franchise would’ve been a “dream come true.”
“I wanted to be the first defensive player off the board,” the three-time All-Pro said this week on The Pivot podcast. “But if it didn’t happen … I always grew up a Dallas Cowboys fan. So if I went to them fourth, that’s a dream come true. When I was on my visit to Dallas they told me straight up to my face that if I was there at No. 4 they were taking me. I thought I was going four for sure.”
Ramsey went to Jacksonville and developed into one of the best defensive players in the game. After a few years there, he would be traded to the Los Angeles Rams and is now a Super Bowl champion.
