Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is reported to have had a surgical procedure done on his right ankle before becoming the highest-paid player in NFL history this week.
According to league sources cited by ESPN, the operation was done in order to remove “hardware” placed around the joint after the 24-year-old sustained a high ankle sprain while playing for the University of Alabama back in 2018.
The injury, which he suffered in October of that year, was reported to have kept him out for a month.
Hurts went under the knife after the Super Bowl in February and was able to return to his offseason routine shortly after. He will participate in the upcoming Eagles’ training program, which is reported to be set for next week.
The player had an operation performed on his other ankle last February following a high sprain against the New York Giants in November of 2021. He missed a game, returning after a bye week to fire the Eagles to a playoff spot towards the end of what was his first season as the team’s QB1.
Hurts showed even better form in 2022, going 14-1 as a starter, having missed two games with a shoulder injury. The former Alabama and Oklahoma signal-caller ended up leading the team to the Super Bowl, where he had one of the most impressive QB performances on such a stage in a marginal loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
