Jalen Hurts is thought to be in line for one of the most lucrative contracts in NFL history after a remarkable third season in the pros. The quarterback got off to a slow start after being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 but experienced a breakout year in 2002 that ended with the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
The former Oklahoma and Alabama star put on an MVP performance during Sunday’s final, passing for 304 yards and a touchdown while running three in himself to the tune of 70 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Jalen played the best game I’ve seen him play in the two years that we’ve been together,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said after the showdown. “The two best quarterbacks in the NFL played against each other on the biggest stage in the biggest lights, and Jalen played great.”
Hurts was already looking set to make some bank but his Super Bowl outing saw his stock rise even more and, according to Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports, he could secure a contract that would land him among the NFL’s highest-paid players.
Vacchiano reports that Hurts could be offered a deal worth nearly $50 million a year, with close to $200 million guaranteed. For comparison, Bills QB Josh Allen signed a six-year extension in 2021 worth $258-million. That works out to an average of $43-million per season, and $150-million of it is guaranteed.
The Eagles are not thought to be averse to paying out the sum and are reported to have told agents representing some of their players that working out a contract for the quarterback is their top priority for the offseason.
