Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has said opposing players are out to get him in every game he plays.
The former Oklahoma star experienced a breakout season in 2022, which is why the Eagles ended up with the joint-best record in the NFL. But he missed Weeks 16 and 17 with a shoulder injury he says he’s still recovering from.
Hurts did make a return in week 18, helping Philly to a win, but he didn’t look himself, despite putting up decent numbers.
With the Eagles enjoying a week off due to finishing as the top seed in the NFC, they’re also preparing to host the New York Giants in a divisional-round matchup this Saturday. Asked whether he was concerned about the Giants’ defense making a target of his hurt shoulder during a press conference on Tuesday, the QB insisted he wasn’t
“It’s football,” he said. “I’ve got a bounty on me every week I go out there on the field, so I’m going to go out there and just play my game. Whatever happens, happens.”
The Giants were the last opponents the Eagles faced as Hurts passed for 229 yards, making 20 of 35 attempts but not throwing for any touchdowns, while he did for one interception. Certainly not the Hurts we became used to seeing this season, but an extra week of rest could do him the world of good.
