Jake Fromm is expected to make his first NFL start on Sunday in Philadelphia. Because of that, his major controversy has been brought back up.
In June 2020, a Fromm text conversation with a childhood friend from 2019 was posted to Twitter. On the topic of guns, Fromm had written: “Just make them very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha.”
Fromm’s texts were made public just as widespread protests were underway nationwide following the murder of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis. Fromm’s former Georgia teammate Terry Godwin II tweeted he’d “lost all respect” for him.
He is now commenting on those texts once agin just days after he gets set to take the field as a starter.
“For me, going to a new situation and a new locker room, there weren’t a whole lot of guys that really knew me,” Fromm said Wednesday. “So I was really selling myself and saying, ‘Hey guys, this is me, this is my heart, this is who I really am.’ And it’s a really long hard road to earn people’s trust, and I’m just super thankful for that family there in Buffalo who really took me in and helped me.”
Asked if thought the incident affected his standing on the Bills’ roster, Fromm said: “No, I don’t think so.” Asked if anyone in the Giants building had broached the subject to him, he said: “No, sir.” Now he will likely lead the Giants (4-10) into Lincoln Financial Field to face the Eagles (7-7) on Sunday.
Head coach Joe Judge stated Fromm “did enough to be in consideration” for the start against Philadelphia.

“There’s a big difference between starting an entire NFL game and coming in at the end of the game when the team is playing more of a two-minute prevent mode,” Judge said. “That’s not a knock on Jake, it’s just the reality and the truth.”
The Giants have averaged only 12.0 points per game in three starts by Glennon, who took over after Daniel Jones suffered what turned out to be a season-ending neck injury.
Fromm completed 6 of 12 throws for 82 yards following a Mike Glennon performance that yielded just 99 yards on 13 of 24 attempts and 3 INTs.
