Jaire Alexander made a bold decision that could have cost the Green Bay Packers a Week 16 win versus the Carolina Panthers.
The Green Bay Packers placed cornerback Jaire Alexander on the reserve/suspended list, general manager Brian Gutekunst announced.
The decision comes after Alexander, not named a captain for the Packers’ Week 16 win over the Carolina Panthers, went out for the pregame coin toss anyway.
The captains were running back Aaron Jones, inside linebacker Quay Walker, and inside linebacker Eric Wilson.
When asked why he walked out with the captains, Alexander said, “It’s only suiting. I don’t think coach knew I was from Charlotte.”
The Packers won the toss and Alexander told the officials that the defense wanted to be on the field first. That meant Carolina would’ve had the ball to start both halves.

Officials overruled the decision and the Packers were able to open the second half with the football. The Packers beat the Carolina Panthers 33-30.
That win set up what is essentially a playoff elimination game on Sunday at the Minnesota Vikings, a meeting of two 7-8 teams vying for an NFC wild-card spot.
It means the Packers won’t have Alexander against Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson.
