Rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs has been making waves in training and his play is suggesting that the Lions shouldn’t miss Jameson Williams while the latter spends the first six games of next season on suspension.
Gibbs, who was drafted at No. 12 overall earlier this year, put his stuff on display during joint practices with the Giants, which likely came as a blow to Brian Daboll as he was one of the players scouted heavily by NY.
The video below shows the rookie RB freezing Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke to the spot with a quick shuffle of his feet before leaving him in his trails to create separation for an easy reception.
Gibbs has been making life hell for his teammates too and, recently, LB Alex Anazlone admitted he was relieved when he learned the Giants would be joining them for practice so he wouldn’t have to cover the 21-year-old.
“Not going against our offense was nice for once,” he said. “Not having to cover Gibbs out of the backfield made my day a little less stressful. He’s twitchy, he’s fast, he’s got a dead-leg to him that can get you, and once he gets away from you and gets separation, it’s tough to recover.”
Gibbs was said to be a standout in practice on day 12 and was a main target in the red zone. He scored several touchdowns on catches and even ran one in past a formidable NY defensive line.
