Leonard Fournette has been in the news quite a bit over the past few days, mostly because he was calling for the Jacksonville Jaguars to sign QB Cam Newton.
On Saturday afternoon, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that it might be him who might be making his way out of town.
Schefter reported the Jacksonville Jaguars placed Leonard Fournette on the trade block and had “trade discussions” with other teams regarding the former No. 4 overall pick.
Fournette is in the final year of his rookie contract and is due just over $4 million for the 2020 season. Even though he is a solid running back, he certainly won’t command the type of money that Carolina handed Christian McCaffrey, which was a four-year, $64 million extension.
Trading Fournette right now would free up $4,167,393 of available cap space while creating $4,471,524 in dead money.
The 25-year-old rushed for 1,152 yards to go along with 76 receptions for 522 yards receiving and three total touchdowns during the 2019 season.
