The Jaguars have lost 10 out of their first 12 games under Urban Meyer, and tensions are reportedly boiling over between the first-year head coach and his players. Per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Meyer has recently had multiple run-ins with players and other coaches on his staff.
It has once again brought up whether the franchise would part ways with him before the season ends.
One of the most public debacles stems from Meyer benching James Robinson, who hasn’t played more than 52% of offensive snaps over the past two games. Not only did Robinson call out the coaching staff over it, but so did rookie QB Trevor Lawrence.
On top of that, Meyer reportedly delivered a harsh message saying that he’s a winner and that his assistant coaches are losers.
Despite what the fan base and players may want to happen, ESPN reports that the Jaguars plan to keep Meyer heading into 2022 and beyond.
“As tension builds amid the frustration of a 2-10 season, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan plans to stay the course with coach Urban Meyer, sources told ESPN on Saturday.
Meyer again has come under scrutiny, with sources confirming an NFL Network report on Saturday that Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones recently had to be persuaded to return to the team facility after leaving in response to Meyer’s vocal criticisms of the wide receiver corps.”
This is hardly the first report or development that has cast Meyer in a negative light as we all remember the viral videos of him in a bar with a woman grinding on him that was not his wife.
