With starting signal-caller Trevor Lawrence in concussion protocol, the Jacksonville Jaguars have added another QB to their roster.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are signing former Boston College and Brown quarterback E.J. Perry to their practice squad. Perry spent the 2022 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad as an undrafted rookie.
Perry also had brief stints on the rosters of the Houston Texans and the USFL’s Michigan Panthers, though he never threw a snap for either club. After two years at BC, he transferred to Brown in 2019 and played there until 2021.
Lawrence remains in concussion protocol following an injury in Sunday night’s home loss to the Baltimore Ravens. 13 days earlier, Lawrence suffered an ankle injury against the Cincinnati Bengals and had to leave the game. He managed to return six days later for the Week 14 road game against the Cleveland Browns.
Just three weeks ago, the Jaguars felt like a virtual lock to win the AFC South. But a three-game losing streak has opened the door for the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans to win the division as well, and all three clubs enter Week 16 with identical 8-6 records.
Lawrence has completed 65.9 percent of his pass attempts this season for 3,525 yards and 18 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. If he can’t go on Sunday, veteran C.J. Beathard will likely get the start against Tampa Bay.
