Jaguars coach Urban Meyer has been in hot water this week ever since he admitted he and general manager Trent Baalke took a player’s vaccination status into consideration during final roster cuts.
Meyer said Tuesday that it was considered because of the more stringent COVID-19 protocols imposed on unvaccinated players who test positive or are identified as high-risk close contacts as compared with the protocols for vaccinated players.
“Everyone was considered,” Meyer said. “That was part of the [considerations such as] production, let’s start talking about this, and also is he vaccinated or not? Can I say that that was a decision-maker? It was certainly in consideration.”
Because of those comments, the NFL Players Association said they would open an investigation. The following day, the team was doing some damage control when they sent out the below statement.
It should be noted that the Jaguars will be in the top five teams with the most unvaccinated players on its roster.
