The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to leave their TIAA Bank Stadium as the venue is set for massive renovations.
The team plans to offer fans a cutting-edge “Stadium of the Future,” with the work projected to last at least two years, and possibly up to four years. According to Jacksonville.com, they’re set to meet with officials in charge of the Daytona International Speedway to discuss playing their home games there.
The renovation project will set the team back $2 billion, according to estimates, with the city reportedly agreeing to pay half. So far, there’s been nothing concrete on where the team will play while the construction takes place.
Candidates to host Jags’ home games include the Camping World Stadium in Orlando and Gainesville’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Per the aforementioned publication, the motorsports venue is now among potential hosts. And, despite the challenges expected to come with playing football games inside of a racing stadium, both parties are thought to be “intrigued with the possibility.”
“If the stars align where we could host one game or multiple games, we would be very proud,” DIS president Frank Kelleher was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Camping World Stadium’s push to host the Jaguars could be aided if Florida Citrus Sports gets $800 million in public money to fund renovations.
