The Jacksonville Jaguars are not a good football team and likely won’t make the playoffs this year, but they can hang their head high and say that they have more wins in 2022 under Doug Pederson than in 2021 when they were under Urban Meyer. Not only that, the team morale seems to be a whole lot better with Pederson more than with Meyer, at least if you ask Jags safety Andrew Wingard.
After going undrafted in 2019, Wingard signed with the Jaguars. He was mostly relegated to special teams in his rookie season but worked his way up the depth chart and eventually joined the starting lineup.
Following the win on Sunday, he seemed to throw a massive shot at Meyer while sending praise to Trevor Lawrence.
“I’m so happy for Trevor because he had to deal with Urban Meyer last year…” Wingard said. “I would die for Doug Pederson, I swear. I love the guy.”
Back in 2021, the Jacksonville Jaguars fired head coach Urban Meyer, ending a tumultuous tenure with the franchise after only 13 games. It was one of the worst signings and tenures that has ever been seen in the National Football League.
In Meyer’s only season with the Jaguars, the team went 2-11, which was its 10th season with double-digit losses in the past 11 years. On the field issues had nothing over the off the field problems that Urban brought wth him. It started with him hiring a strength and conditioning coordinator who had been accused of making racist remarks and bullying Black players, to a video of Meyer with a woman who was not his wife at a bar.

There was tension between him and his staff and ultimately ended with a report where former kicker Josh Lambo alleged that Meyer kicked him in the leg while he was stretching in warm-ups before a practice during the week of the final preseason game.
The Jags may be 4-7, but they are in a much better place without Meyer.
