On Thursday, Telvin Smith suddenly took to Instagram releasing a statement that stated he would not be playing any type of football for anybody in 2019.
“At this time I must take time away from this game and get my world in order,” Smith said on his Instagram account. “I must give this time back to myself, my family, and my health.”
About an hour or so after his statement, the Jags front office released a statement basically stating they had no statement because they found out the same time we did that he was stepping away from the game.
That’s right. He didn’t even tell his employer.

Just to give you a summary of what the Jags will be missing out there on the field with his departure:
One of only 13 players in NFL history to record 100+ tackles in each of their first 5 seasons.
Also the only player with at least:
-100 tackles
-2 INTs
-1 fumble recovery
in EACH of the last 3 seasons.
Only 15 other players have done that in even ONE of the last three seasons.
Smith signed a four-year, $45-million extension with the Jaguars in October 2017.
