The Jacksonville Jaguars shared an awesome behind-the-scenes video from the 2023 NFL Draft that shows how GM Trent Baalke managed to get the player he wanted in round one.
Jacksonville held the No. 24 pick but, Baalke was open to trading it. The New York Giants ultimately acquired that selection from Jacksonville so they could take Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks. In return, the Jaguars got the No. 25, No. 160 and No. 240 picks.
The Buffalo Bills now wanted the No. 25 pick so they could snag Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid. Balke was fine taking on swapping first-rounders (Buffalo held the 27th pick) and managed to convince Bills’ GM Brandon Beane to give him the No. 130 selection as well.
Jacksonville then got their man by taking Oklahoma offensive tackle Anton Harrison, and he secured some extra picks along the way.
Here’s the video to detail how the negotiating played out in the Jaguars’ draft room. At the end, they also show the heartwarming moment where Harrison found out in a phone call with head coach Doug Pederson that he was going to be their pick:
The Jaguars are coming off their first winning and playoff season since 2017. They claimed the AFC South division with a 9-8 record, defeating the Tennessee Titans in a win-or-go-home Week 18 contest to snag the crown.
