New England Patriots player Jack Jones was arrested for alleged gun possession after trying to bring two firearms onto a plane at Logan Airport in Boston.
The 25-year-old, who’s facing several charges including possession of a concealed weapon in a security area of an airport and unlawful possession of a firearm, was arraigned on Tuesday. Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges, but still faces up to 30 years in prison if he’s found guilty.
After it was all sad and done, his lawyer had something to say.
His attorney, Rosemary Scapicchio, said that she’s tired of her client getting referred to as a “thug” because of this incident.
“As far as Mr. Jones is concerned, it’s the social media and the media who have turned him into a thug, who have labeled him as a thug with no evidence whatsoever,” Scapicchio said, (first transcribed by NESN). “This is not a situation where Mr. Jones ever wanted to be a thug or thought of as a thug, but because he’s a young Black man all of a sudden he’s a thug. That’s what’s happened here.”
Jones posted a $30,000 bail and is expected to return to court Aug. 18.

The Patriots selected Jones in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Arizona State product played in 13 games for New England last season but closed his rookie campaign with a team-issued suspension for reportedly missing rehab sessions and running his mouth off to head coach Bill Belichick.
It seems like that incident from last season combined with this one before the 2023 season could ultimately get him kicked off the team.
