J.J. Watt has been the face of the franchise since the club drafted him in the first round in 2011. The Houston Texans defensive end has been increasingly annoyed with the team’s play in 2020 and it appears he knows his time might be coming to an end.
The veteran pass-rusher admitted Thursday that he’s unsure about his future with the Texans, noting that he has no further contract guarantees and can thus be released at no cost.
“We’ll see what happens,” Watt said, via Mark Berman of FOX 26. “I don’t have any guarantees left in my contact, so something’s got to happen one way or another. I’m not sure. There’s too many unknowns.”
Watt has only collected five sacks in 15 games this season. The team ends its season on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, a game where they can play spoiler and keep them out of the playoffs.
“I’m looking forward to playing a game on Sunday and we’ll see what happens after that,” said Watt.
