It’s an emotional day for the Houston Texans organization and their fans, as the face of the franchise for the past decade has been released.
Watt and the organization came to a mutual agreement to part ways this morning, and the three-time defensive player of the year took to his twitter page to make the announcement to his fans.
In the video posted by Watt, he claims that he wanted to be the one to share the news, rather than have everyone hear it via breaking news tweets. Watt goes on to thank the organization, the city of Houston, and the fans for all the support they have given him throughout the years (even thought hey booed him when he was drafted).
If you’d like to check out Watt’s emotional statement, you can watch the entire clip below:
In a time when many athletes tend to find out they’ve been traded or released through other sources on social media, it’s refreshing to see a player come on and provide us with the news himself.
Classy move by Watt and the Texans organization (a rarity for the latter).
