It’s thought that there could be some trouble in the Detroit Lions locker room ahead of their season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs this week.
According to sources cited by Detroit News, defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs has been told he will be a healthy scratch for the upcoming fixture vs. the reigning Super Bowl champions on Thursday night.
The DT took to X two days ago to post the following: “I’m Good But Just Know Situations Change #96BALLFOREVER Y’all Gone See.”
The player also removed some references to the Lions from his social media profiles, prompting suggestions he could be traded.
Buggs missed practice on Saturday for what was an unknown reason then. It’s since been disclosed that he was ill.
He returned to practice on Monday and attempted to make light of his social media activity, revealing his frustrations stemmed from being told that he wouldn’t be active against the Chiefs.

“As of right now, they told me that I was not going to play,” he said. “So that’s what we got. I’m going to be straightforward with it, because they were straightforward with me with that. And as of right now, I will not be playing.
“It was a surprise to me, actually,” he continued. “That’s why I say, you don’t always know everything,” Bugg said. “… Playing an important role last year, leading this year, you think you’re going to be that guy. You thinking they’re all in with you, and then, ‘Boom.’ With a snap of your finger, it’s like that. Like I said, I’ve always been a team player, I’ve always been a role player. Whatever they have for me, that’s what I’m going to do.”
The 27-year-old joined the Lions late in the 2022 offseason and played all 17 games for the team, starting in 13 of them as he was involved in a career-high 755 defensive snaps.
His performances earned him a two-year contract extension worth $2.5 million at the end of the season.
