It’s believed that a move by Deion Sanders from Colorado to Dallas could actually happen, with the Buffaloes head coach admitting he had to give it some thought after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reached out.
While no interviews have been scheduled, Coach Prime is a legitimate candidate to take over after the team parted ways with Mike McCarthy.
The former star cornerback just completed his second season with CU, having signed a five-year deal worth $29.5 million with the university in 2022. He led them to an impressive 9-4 record in 2024 after going 4-8 the year before.
While the Cowboys clearly want Deion Sanders, NFL Network’s Jane Slater has pointed to something that could prove a stumbling block.

Deion Sanders Staff Could Be An Issue
According to Slater, Sanders’ large Colorado staff could be an issue for Jones, given that McCarthy was asekd to reduce his when he got the job.

“He’s got a very large staff there [at Colorado],” Slater noted. “Will Jerry allow him to bring all of those [coaches to Dallas]? Mike McCarthy was asked to reduce his staff, and Jerry is not very high on paying his coaches here.”
Jones would have to spend at least $10 million to buy Sanders out of his contract with the Buffaloes, and paying a huge staff on top of that might not be something he wants to do. Still, McCarthy’s departure didn’t cost him anything, as the former head coach was allowed to fulfill his contract.
Meanwhile, Sanders has insisted on multiple occasions that he does not want to coach in the NFL but recently admitted he would consider it if there was an opportunity to coach both of his sons in the pros.
