Adam Schefter has revealed why he left the NFL Network to go work for ESPN.
Chefter has been with The Worldwide Leader in Sports since 2015 and is a big part of the network’s football coverage as he breaks stories in real time and makes multiple television appearances every week.
The NFL insider joined The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand on his podcast this week, where he revealed he actually wanted to remain with NFLN but was lowballed by the company even after doing a lot more than his contract stipulated within the first six months.
“They were rigid and unreasonable, and when they made an offer that was not fair, I said I can’t take that and they pulled me off the air,” he told Marchand.
Schefter claimed NFL Network made him one offer and never allowed negotiations to move past it.

Adam Schefter Is Planning To Be Around For Some Time Still
Adam Schefter said he joined NFLN on a five-year deal as a “newspaper guy,” with his contract requiring him to make two television appearances and write one column every week. However, he ended up on TV basically every night within the first month or two, given that he was on one of their flagship shows while also working as a sideline reporter.
The 58-year-old jumped ship to ESPN and has been one of the faces of the network for well over a decade.
When asked if he might retire soon, Schefty made it clear that he doesn’t see himself doing this for another 35 years but isn’t sure he’ll be around for the next 5-10 years, either.
While he remains one of the most reputable newsbreakers in sports, Schefter has plenty of critics. But it doesn’t appear that they will be rid of him anytime soon.
