The Indianapolis Colts have unveiled a black helmet for the first time, taking advantage of the NFL’s alternate helmet rule.
The team took to social media this Thursday to announce a new alternate uniform for the upcoming season branded “Indiana Nights.” The fit will debut in their Week 7 fixture against the Cleveland Browns on October 22.
It would seem that the new uniform resembles the all-blue rush uniforms from a few years ago yet there are differences. The Colts’ iconic blue is prominent on the jersey and the pants but features an infused “Heather” material which gives it additional texture and depth.
Other novel features include a pair of horizontal stripes across the shoulder pads that match the team’s piping down the legs, as well as their secondary logo which has been around since the 2020 season.
The biggest difference comes in the form of the helmet. Indianapolis traditionally outfits in white headgear but the new threads are accompanied by black pieces bearing the same design as the main ones.

The league approved alternate helmets for teams prior to last season and, since then, nearly half of the teams have taken advantage to bring back classic looks.
The Colts’ uniforms have remained mostly unchanged since 1956 but it appears they’re trying to launch a new culture with an “Indiana Nights” line.
