One NFL executive believes that a QB-needy AFC team could pursue Arizona Cardinals’ star Kyler Murray in a trade.
The offseason has not been friendly to the Cardinals thus far. Star defensive end J.J. Watt retired, plus fellow DE Zach Allen and cornerback Byron Murphy left for the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikigns in free agency, respectively. On top of that, it was reported on Friday that Pro Bowl safety Budda Baker requested a trade.
Five-time Pro Bowl wideout DeAndre Hopkins has been the subject of trade rumors since January, though he remains part of the roster with the draft drawing closer.
Last year, Murray agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $230.5 million. But with the Cardinals seemingly about to enter a rebuild, it’s easy to understand why Murray’s name has been coming up in trade rumors.
Per Evan Massey of NFL Analysis Network, one NFL executive stated that the Indianapolis Colts have “interest” in the first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. The executive opines that Indianapolis “would pursue” trading for Murray in the event that Arizona takes Florida Gators’ quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 3 selection.
“Indianapolis has had interest in Kyler Murray in the past and likely still would now if he becomes available. Say Arizona takes (Anthony) Richardson at three, I think the Colts would pursue a trade for Kyler.”

The Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans hold the first and second overall picks, respectively. Quarterbacks Bryce Young (Alabama) and C.J. Stroud (Ohio State) are widely expected to be the first two selections.
Things get interesting in the No. 3 spot. Arizona can either take a quarterback and look to trade Murray, use the pick on a non-QB or trade the selection for a major haul. Either way, much of the action for the 2023 NFL offseason will largely depend on the moves (or lack thereof) of Arizona GM Monti Ossenfort.
