Over the past several weeks, Denver Broncos’ star wideout Jerry Jeudy has emerged as one of the top names in the NFL trade rumor mill.
On Sunday, head coach Sean Payton stated that the Broncos will not be trading Jeudy or fellow standout receiver Courtland Sutton, another popular subject of trade rumors. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Jeudy or Sutton trade talks will slow down, though.
At Pro Football Focus, Sam Monson proposed ideas for the biggest WR-needy teams. Monson had the Indianapolis Colts on that list, making the case for the AFC South club to trade for Denver’s young receiver:
“According to reports, Denver’s entire wide receiver room appears to be on the trade block as new head coach Sean Payton returns to the strategy of making Russ cook pre-prepared meals rather than giving him free rein to throw together a pickle and ice cream salad.
The Indianapolis Colts are going to draft their future quarterback in the first round, but that player is going to need an upgrade to a receiver group that has been too reliant on Michael Pittman Jr. since he joined the team.
Pittman has caught 70.5% of the passes thrown his way in the NFL but generated just 1.62 yards per route run over the same time. Jerry Jeudy is an elite separator, particularly against man coverage, and he can operate from the slot or out wide. He brings a lot of the skills that complement the weaker areas of Pittman’s game and would be a force multiplier within this offense.”
If the Colts want to put their next starting quarterback in position to succeed right away, GM Chris Ballard should make it a priority to add another receiver. The Colts already have Michael Pittman Jr. and 2021 rushing champion Jonathan Taylor in the fold, but a capable WR2 would go a long way in helping this offense rebuild after a rough year.
The Colts hold the No. 4 selection in next month’s NFL Draft. Barring any major surprises, the top two picks will be Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Alabama’s Bryce Young. The Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans hold the No. 1 and No. 2 picks.

Many believe the Arizona Cardinals will deal the No. 3 pick, as they already have a young quarterback in Kyler Murray. Even if the Cardinals trade the pick, the Colts will have a chance to take Kentucky’s Will Levis and/or Florida’s Anthony Richardson.
Or perhaps the Colts will try to trade for Baltimore Ravens’ star Lamar Jackson, who announced on Monday that he requested a move earlier this month. Regardless, the presence a young stud like Jeudy (972 receiving yards last season) would make life a lot easier for the Colts’ next QB.
