In the ongoing saga between star running back Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts, analysts are calling out the hypocrisy from the Indiana Colts.
The Colts recently granted permission for Taylor to seek out his own trade, but are also asking for at least a first-round pick or comparable in return for the top running back. Though any team would want value for a player of his caliber, the team was called out by Fantasy Football Director Kyle Yates for their value of him as a player as opposed to his contract value.
The Colts refuse to give Taylor a larger contract, but are asking or a high package in return for him. Taylor, 24, ran for 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021 before injuries shortened his 2022 season. Taylor has returned to health and is seeking a larger contract as the Colts wont offer it.
This ideology is one of several issues surrounding the NFL running back position this offseason. Players like Ezekiel Elliot and Saquan Barkley were top Backs in similar positions as Taylor, but the NFL wears out backs on their rookie deals and low balls them as the position is prone to wear and tear.
As Yates stated, the Colts trying to have their cake and eat it shows the hypocrisy of the value of running backs. Taylor is only 24 years old and will bounce back in 2023. Though his recent season was shortened, he deserves to be paid and showcase his talent. One thing for sure is it wont be for the Indianapolis Colts.
