The power of social media can be a great tool when it’s used correctly, but when it isn’t, it can be quite scary.
Late in the 4th quarter of the NFC Championship game, a clear pass interference on the Los Angeles Rams was not flagged which started a chain reaction to the New Orleans Saints losing that game in overtime.
After the game, social media detectives began to find out who all the refs were and Phil McKinnely’s name came up. His background was looked into and they found out he used to play for the Rams in 1981 as well as other teams in the league. He was made public enemy #1.
The only problem with that info is….McKinnely didn’t work the Championship game. As a matter of fact, he hadn’t worked much during the 2018 season at all.

This is how somebody’s life gets turned upside down with a false accusation. Even he did make the wrong call, at the end of the day,nobody deserves to be harassed over the outcome of a football game. It’s a game and the outcome is not curing cancer and saving lives.
