A former receiver for the Dallas Cowboys has passed away this weekend.
Golden Richards, who famously caught a touchdown pass from a gadget play to help Dallas win the Super Bowl in 1978, died on Friday at the age of 73.
Richards, also popular for his flowing blonde hair, is reported to have died as the result of congestive heart failure at his home in Murray. His nephew, Lance Richard, confirmed his death via a Facebook post.
“My uncle Golden passed away peacefully this morning,” he wrote. “I will forever remember going hunting and talking Dallas Cowboy football. He was a kind and sweet soul and I’m so happy he’s not suffering anymore.”
Richards spent seven years in the NFL after starring at BYU. He also played for the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.
He is best known for his time in Dallas, where he was a threat from deep who averaged more than 21 yards per catch in two seasons. He ended his Cowboys career with an average of 18.3 yards.

In total, Richards registered 122 receptions for 2,136 yards and 17 touchdowns, with injuries forcing him to retire in 1980.
